A Color On! Christmas Parody: A Nod to Our Lead Team
By Dixie Ohlander
‘Twas the night before Christmas when in Mary’s house
No one was stirring, not even her spouse.
The stockings were hung with their gold glitter bells
In hopes that St. Nick would bring bright brand new gels.
Mary was dozing, all snug in her bed
While visions for Color On filled up her head.
Mary in PJs complete with a cap, had just settled down
For a long all-night nap.
When outside the window arouse such a clatter,
She jumped out of bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the front door she flew like a flash,
Waving her wish list, in one big mad dash.
The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow,
Gave a luster like gel whites to all things below.
When what to her wondering eyes should show up,
But a tired Anisa with cookies in cup.
With Steph right beside her with strong coffee drinks,
They knew in a moment they’d not sleep a wink.
More rapid than horses the editors flew
They whistled and shouted and woke neighbor Sue.
Now Steph! Now Anisa! Now Mary! (and Sue?)
On writers! On artists! And publishers, too!
To the top of next year
Let’s all start anew!
As dry markers frustrate before coloring is done,
With an handful of fresh ones inspiration had won.
So up to the attic the editors climbed, full of ideas
Boy, were they primed!
And then in a twinkling they heard from the roof,
The clatter of pencils, pens, markers, and hoof.
As they drew up their plans with the markers they found,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in red, from his head to his foot
And his clothes were all covered with ink stains and soot.
A sack of supplies he had flung on his back.
And he looked like an artist, just opening his pack.
His eyes, how they twinkled, his dimples, how merry
His cheeks red like roses, his nose Crimson Cherry.
His sly little mouth formed a smile very tender,
And the beard on his chin was as white as a blender.
The stump of a pencil he held tight in his teeth.
While a new tin of Prismas slipped out from beneath.
He had a kind face and some gifts of pastels.
With the name of each editor written in gels.
He was chubby and plump the most jolly of elves,
And they laughed when they saw him in spite of themselves.
A wink of his eye and a nod of his head,
Soon gave them to know that he really loved red!
He spoke not a word and went straight to the hooks
And filled all their stockings with Copics and books.
A laying a finger aside of his nose, with a wise little nod
Blessed the gifts that he chose.
He sprung to his sleigh to his team gave a nod,
And away he did fly heading quickly abroad.
And they heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight,
Have a Colorful Christmas, and to all a good night!
Thanks to Mary Winters-Meyer, Anisa Claire, and Stephanie Anders for a fun and successful year at Color On!
